Conclusion:
Conclusion The Property Damage Reporting Hub has become an essential tool in Hillsborough County’s disaster response efforts. While not initially designed as a long-term solution, its success has sparked discussions about future enhancements, including expanding its functionality into a full administrative tool. This custom-built system serves as a model for other counties seeking scalable disaster response solutions, demonstrating the power of rapid, strategic development in government technology.
The Challenge:
Before this system, there was no formal method for reporting property damage related to natural disasters. Property owners were burdened with high tax bills on homes they could no longer live in due to flooding and severe damage. The county needed an efficient way to intake claims and ensure that homeowners received the tax relief they were entitled to.
The Solution:
WRIS built a brand-new Property Damage Reporting Hub from the ground up in just 2.5 weeks. Using Bootstrap, we developed a user-friendly portal where property owners could submit claims easily. On the backend, appraisers could access claims, update statuses, and generate legally required PR-465 forms. An export tool was also integrated to report claim data to the state, ensuring a smooth connection between the county and state-level tax relief processes.
